Abraham House offers the incarcerated and their relatives a place of hope and community, where lives can be rebuilt, families mended, lessons learned, and men, women and children deeply marked by crime can receive the spiritual, social and practical tools to become productive citizens.

Keeping in alignment with the overall mission of the Abraham House, the After School Program (ASP) seeks to work with children directly affected by incarceration and other at-risk factors such as domestic violence, truancy, and juvenile justice. In an effort to address the needs of our participants, the ASP has incorporated a two-fold approach.

I.       Academics:  The first component is providing homework help and tutoring. The ASP provides participants a safe, clean, orderly space that is conducive to learning and resources (i.e. computers, books, internet access, tutors) that may not be available to them at home. One-on-one tutoring sessions are available for those participants needing additional help in Math and Reading.

II.    Youth Development: The second component incorporates a Youth Development approach that aims to prepare young people to meet the challenges of adolescents and young adulthood through a structured, progressive series of activities and experiences which help them obtain social, emotional, ethical, physical, and cognitive competencies. The goal is to mobilize the youth, families, and the community to create positive goals and outcomes for the young people involved.
