SEO SCHOLARS is a free, eight-year academic program that gets low-income public high school students to and through college. During high school, SEO Scholars provides over 720 hours of rigorous English and math instruction after school, on Saturdays, and in the summers. SEO continues to work with its Scholars through college with comprehensive academic, personal and career support. Our results are unmatched in the education nonprofit sector: 100% of SEO Scholars are accepted to four-year colleges, with 95% graduation rates, compared to 21% of low-income students nationally. SEO Scholars is looking for dynamic Instructors to lead our 12th grade Scholars in building the skills necessary to navigate the academic and social transition to college. Instructors will facilitate sessions that help students to use analytical writing skills to reflect on the social, cultural, and economic transition into higher education.
  • Lead Instruction – Deliver a writing and discussion-based curriculum to prepare students for college-level work and expectations. The strongest Instructors can create a dynamic learning environment and bring lesson plans to life. SEO provides all lesson plans, handouts, and materials.
  • Promote Depth of Understanding – Instructors are considered ‘thinking coaches’ and facilitators of learning, who support students’ deep engagement with course content. Topics discussed throughout the course include defining race and ethnicity, identity, stereotype threat, and sense of belonging.
  • Support Academic Growth - Instructors are responsible for thoroughly preparing to teach, tracking assignments, providing individualized feedback, and upholding SEO Scholars policies and core teaching principles.
12th grade spring semester classes begin on Saturday, January 13th and end on Saturday, April 14th. Classes meet approximately 3 Saturdays per month from 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM. Instructors lead four 60-minute classes of approximately 20 students.
The ideal candidate:
  • Has high school and/or college-level teaching experience
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of college-level academic writing
  • Has a passion for college access and college preparatory work
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, oral, and electronic communication skills
  • Is reflective, highly collaborative, and looking to grow as an educator
  • Strongly supports SEO’s mission of educational access and equity
  • Earned at least a Bachelor’s degree
Instructors are compensated at a competitive hourly rate.
