Job Description:

Monday-Friday, 25 hours a week, both day and after school - hours as needed Salary: $25 per hour SUMMARY: Reporting to both the Director of Enrichment and the Director of Community Schools, the Academic Coordinator will be primarily responsible for coordinating academic skill development/opportunities and facilitating effective tutoring practices at our Youth Futures program, located in Queens Technical High School. Utilizing tutoring sessions, scheduled events, collaboration with teachers, and other means via the Youth Futures program, the Academic Coordinator will lead and support other academic staff in the design and implementation of best practices and methods to support Queens Tech’s departments, tutoring, and/or ELL classes. The Academic Coordinator will be responsible for creating an environment that will provide growth in students’ academic achievement, including measurable results in state assessments and classroom understanding. S/he will work collaboratively with other staff and outside professionals to address the supplemental academic needs of Queens Technical High School. Through integrated focus on academic services, social-emotional support, and data collection, the Academic Coordinator will bring an organized, communicative, and strategized approach to improve student academic performance, foster an encouraging learning environment, and build collaborative educational community. This position will be a part of our Youth and Family Services department at Sunnyside Community Services. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Coordinate academic program activities, including tutoring sessions across programs, communication with teachers and school staff, and promotion of program opportunities at scheduled events • Provide tutoring, homework help, and additional academic support to students during the school day and afterschool; Provide 1:1 academic support as well as small student group instructional support • Assists with collection, input, and evaluation of academic data, including attendance, to measure effectiveness and progress towards program’s academic goals and objectives • Structure, lead, and support tutors and other academic staff regarding planning and facilitation of academic components • Assist Director of Enrichment and Community Schools Director with planning and implementation of academic initiatives • Establish rapport with youth and provide mentoring, guidance and overall direction for their academic progress • Meet regularly with teachers and staff to share progress, challenges, and best practices • Collaborate constructively with coworkers • Communicate regularly with Supervisors • Serve as a positive role model and uphold professional behavior • Other administrative and supportive duties as assigned How to apply: E-mail a cover letter and resume to Kezia Roopnarine, Educational Director, kroopnarine@scsny.org.
