Job Description:

We provide quality, effective services that deepen connections between family members, within schools, and among neighbors.  A leading NYC non-profit that has been recognized for its commitment to the success of young people and families, is currently seeking an Activity Instructor ( Fashion) for our afterschool program located at Beacon MS 45 in the Bronx.

JOB SUMMARY: The Activity Instructor teaches and facilitates a youth centered fashion class, including two yearly showcases. 



  • Facilitate two fashion classes per week
  • Develop and/or follow a sequenced Fashion Curriculum based on students’ interest. Curriculum should promote creativity, self-expression, opportunity for mastery, and emotional and professional growth.
  • Integrate lessons enriched with literacy, history and other related academic subjects when applicable.
  • Plan and prepare two culminating events for students to showcase their Fashion design/creations.
  • Ensure students will be prepared and able to illustrate what they learned in two culminating event.
  • Attends all staff meetings and staff development trainings sessions, as specified.
  • Foster a youth development, strength’s based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants.
  • Responsible for the setup, operation and clean-up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment.
  • Guides program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities.
  • Delegate roles to group leaders during class time to assist with the facilitation of a group (where applicable).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with professional experience.
  • Experience working youth.
  • Experience and/or training relevant to the position required.
  • Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
