Job Description:
The Frederick Douglass Center provides essential services to children and families on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The center, founded in 1958 by The Children’s Aid Society, is located in a New York City Housing Authority facility. Frederick Douglass Center offers a full day Head Start program, After School Program and Summer Camp for children ages 5-11, Teen Services, and Weekend Programming. Today more than 1,000 children and their families use the center. The facility includes a full-service library, gymnasium, outdoor playground facilities, and an Intel Computer Clubhouse and after-school and nursery classrooms.
Position Summary:
The Frederick Douglass Center Director is responsible for the management of all activities, programs, and services implemented in the Center.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•Assures the functioning of all programs of all programs and services offered at the Center, including: School age/After-School Programs, Adolescent/Youth Development Services, Computer Education and GED programs, Summer Camp, Recreational and Weekend programs.
•Develops, maintains, and nurtures relationship with community residents, organizations, and local businesses
•Responsible for all administrative and fiscal matters (hiring, payroll, petty cash, budget, etc…)
•Responsible for the overall supervision and professional development of all full-time & part-time staff, including:
•Enforce all CAS personnel policies and procedures
•Responsible for supervising the daily operation and maintenance of the facility, which includes a heated pool
•Ensure that the Center meets all local, city and state building codes and regulations
•Maintains the general appearance of the Center, both internal and exterior
•Responsible for proper completion of key administrative duties, including:
•Working with the Development department to help attract and secure additional funding sources
Qualifications:
•Master' s degree in Education, Social Work or related field
•At least seven years experience in youth and community development programs with extensive work in management and supervision
•Ability to manage a variety of tasks
•Prior program development, budget management and grant writing experience
•Strong written and oral communication skills
•Knowledge of child and youth development
•Knowledge of government regulations
•Crisis management experience
•Prior experience managing a facility
•Computer literate
