Job Description:
The After-School Corporation (TASC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing all students with expanded learning opportunities that support, educate and inspire them.
In our second decade, expanded learning time (ELT) has become the cornerstone of TASC’s work. ELT is TASC’s strategy to reform urban education by expanding the time and ways students learn. TASC ELT Schools partner with community organizations to deliver a blend of core academic instruction, enrichments and other activities that support state learning standards and help kids get and stay on track to graduate from high school and be successful in college and beyond. Having piloted its ELT model in New York City for three years, we are now embarking upon an initiative to demonstrate the effectiveness and adaptability of the model in three additional cities: Baltimore, Newark and New Orleans.
ELT Schools are distinguished by: 1) more time for balanced curriculum; 2) school-community partnership; 3) engaging and personalized instruction; and 4) a sustainable cost model. TASC seeks a Director of Education to develop and implement a strategy that will ensure school and community staff who lead and teach in the ELT Schools are well-qualified and supported to consistently adhere to these core elements. Reporting to the TASC’s Vice President of ELT Schools, the Director of Education will be a member of the Operations Division.
Responsibilities:
· Work with TASC Operations and Research staff and the administration and staff of schools and community organizations to assess the professional development needs of the diverse ELT workforce
· Lead the design and implementation of professional development activities for the leaders and staff of ELT schools and their community partners
· Identify and promote curricular offerings that are aligned with learning standards (including the Common Core) and responsive to the needs and goals of participating schools
· Advance the integration of differentiated and engaging instructional approaches such as project-based, inquiry-based, experiential and digital learning into ELT schools
· Equip school and community staff to embed child and youth development principles in their instructional practices
· Establish and support a learning community among the ELT Instructional Leaders that addresses issues of planning, alignment, joint professional development and assessment
· Integrate after-school staff into suitable professional development activities and ensure that TASC is building the capacity of community organizations to be partners in ELT
· Evaluate all ELT professional development activities to continuously improve offerings
· Document and disseminate best practices in joint planning and professional development
