Job Description:

Good Shepherd Services, a leading NYC non-profit committed to the success of young people and families, is currently seeking an Education Specialist, for our Brooklyn Community Based Programs in Brooklyn.

The Educational Specialistprovides educational curricula and activities as an avenue for self-development and expression through enrichment and a project based curriculum for students participating in afterschool programs. Services will be provided to students who attend the school-based programs at Spring Creek and Young Writers, Launch Expeditionary Learning Charter School, Essence School, Madiba Prep Middle School and the Afterschool at PS 297.

Required Skills/Experience:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required.
  • Certified Elementary School Teacher with specific background in developmentally appropriate reading techniques and remedial reading strategies.
  • Must have knowledge of pre- assessment tools and strategies
  • Must have experience in lesson planning, curriculum development, and implementation of structured programming for students in elementary and middle school
  • Must possess effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of the needs of students requiring remedial reading instruction.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with afterschool program staff, school colleagues, school administrators, parents and students.
  • Must be able to work from a different school site each day.
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development and trauma-informed perspective.
