Job Description:


The Education Supervisor provides leadership and management to teaching staff, supervision of curriculum development and implementation, classroom management and teacher evaluation. The Education Supervisor  is responsible for developing and implementing initiatives that strengthen curriculum and teaching through coaching, professional development, continuous education programs and regulative policy and procedure. This position will lead and manage program quality and teachers' performance to achieve and exceed standards as established by Early Childhood, Head Start Performance Standards, NYC Universal Pre-Kindergarten, Phipps Neighborhoods, funders and other relevant licensing guidelines.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create, plan and implement curriculum, assuring they meet the highest quality standards

  • Provide instructional leadership for UPK teachers including classroom observations and feedback, lesson plan review, curriculum support, and use of student data to drive instruction.

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of the pre-kindergarten space

  • Maintain appropriate files for students and staff and ensure all teachers meet compliance expectations for both Phipps Neighborhoods and  funders.

  • Assist the program director with teacher evaluation and performance management

  • Lead “Town Hall Meetings” and facilitate a learning environment that involves students, parents, teachers, and other community stakeholders

  • Demonstrate knowledge of early childhood education best practices and how to incorporate these practices into, and across, program sites

  • Communicate effectively with parents as needed and maintain a positive relationship with families through parent meetings, counseling, conference, workshops and special events

  • Possess a good understanding of current, applicable regulations and be able to perform all necessary steps to make sure programs are in compliance with these regulations, including the NYC Department of Health and Child and Adult Care Food Programs where necessary 

  • Develop and implement structures to support successful achievement of outcomes and performance targets

  • Insure the use of data for ongoing quality assurance and performance monitoring

  • Promote the positive image of the organization and play a major role in making Phipps CDC a provider of choice in educational programs for the communities we serve

Required Skills/Experience:



  • Candidates must have a degree in Early Childhood Education or related field of study with at least 2 years’ experience as a lead teacher for children less than six years of age

  • Current valid NYSED certification in early childhood or childhood grades

  • Strong record of achievement outcomes in classroom, teacher and student supervision and evaluation

  • CLASS certification preferred

  • Previous experience in program development, planning and management strongly preferred; administrative experience is essential including practical fiscal management and staff supervision

  • Experience with Teachers Strategies Gold, Early Screening Inventory (ESI), Assessment Survey  Quality Evaluation (ASQE), Program Quality Assessment (PQA) and  Sales force and other data management and evaluation software

  • Knowledge of NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Article 47 regulations, Department of Education Universal Pre-K and Common Core Standards

  • Knowledge of reviewing IEP’s (Individual Education Plan)

  • Knowledge of the referral process for CPSE (Committee for Pre-School Special Education)and CSE (Committee for Special Education)

  • Knowledge of NAEYC and other state and national accreditation standards

  • Ability to multi-task, be goal oriented and possess a high energy level in order to succeed in a challenging, fast-paced environment

  • Positive, energetic and engaging personality as well as a good sense of humor

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required

  • Experience in website management, Constant Contact and event management is required; public relations experience is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work efficiently and meet deadlines is essential.

  • Well organized with excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize and plan ahead.

  • The candidate should be proactive, take initiative and work independently yet collaboratively.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate well with colleagues and donors.

  • Resourceful, with a desire to improve systems or solve problems when needed.

  • Demonstrated experience in electronic communications, including writing for the web, email marketing and social media is a must.

  • Experience managing vendor relationships is strongly preferred.

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and Publisher.  

  • Proficient in office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, online tools, etc.). Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising software preferred.

  • DOE/DOI Fingerprint Clearance

  • SCR clearance

  • Child Abuse and Maltreatment certificate (taken every 2 years online)

  • Infectious Disease Certificate

  • Food Handlers Certificate
