JOB DESCRIPTION: Groundwork Inc. is looking for a highly-motivated, organized, and supportive person to work at Groundwork for Youth After-School Academy, a literacy-focused after school program for students in grades K through 8 from high-poverty communities in East New York and Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The Activity Specialist is a part-time position working up to15 hours a week that reports to the after-school Campus Director. The Activity Specialist’s primary responsibility is to design and lead enrichment activities for students. After-School Academies are based at schools in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. We are seeking creative professionals with experience working with the youth in the following (but not limited to) areas:
- Music
- Martial Arts
- Visual Arts
- Media and Technology
- Dance
- Sports & Recreation: Soccer, Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball or Lacrosse
- Foreign Languages
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a positive role model and uphold professional behavior.
- Ensure children’s physical and emotional safety in accordance with program policies and procedures.
- Collaborate constructively with coworkers.
- Design and lead activities in your area of specialty in accordance to the program’s curriculum.
- Assist in evaluating children’s academic and social performance.
- Keep classroom and supplies organized and neat.
- Participate in all program trainings, meetings and events as required.
- Typical work schedule: 3 days per week from 4:00pm – 6:00pm
