Job Description:

Main Function

The primary function of the Group Leader is to facilitate group activities that provide a safe and engaging learning environment to the participants of the Isaacs Center Afterschool Programs.  Our programs are delivered through a comprehensive menu of services including theme- based learning projects that integrate educational enrichment, visual and performing arts, clubs and sports.  Isaacs Center Group Leaders work in teams of two. The Isaacs Center currently operates three (3) school-based sites and (1) community site located in the Yorkville & East Harlem communities in Manhattan. Group Leaders report directly to the Program Coordinator and Assistant Program Coordinator.  

Responsibilities

·         Prepare /implement engaging theme-based activities leading to culminating presentation with peers and supervisor

·         Complete all necessary paperwork, including, but not limited to: incident reports, behavior forms, medical logs, sign-in sheets, lesson plans and timesheets.

·         Monitor participants' behavior using positive discipline strategies

·         Assist Specialists and actively engaged in lessons with participants

·         Distribute notices and handouts to parent/guardians to inform them of upcoming event or incidents.

·         Inform supervisor of all noteworthy incidents, i.e. issues with program participants, parents/guardian, school personnel; change in personal schedule that will affect your ability to adhere to daily work schedule.

·         Attend on- and offsite Professional Development

·         Model and implement strategies introduced during workshop sessions to peers at staff meetings.

·         Inform supervisor, in advance, of any absences (scheduled/incidental)

·         Assist in maintaining clean and organized work/storage spaces

·         Take accurate attendance daily

·         Follow strict dismissal procedure, ensuring that all children are signed out by designated persons daily

·         Attend and be actively engaged in program meetings

·         Sign-in/out daily on Staff Roster

·         Complete Mid-year Self-Evaluation process which includes completing forms and meeting with supervisor.

 

Required Skills/Experience:

Required skill/qualifications:

  • H.S. senior, H.S. diploma or working toward college degree
  • Minimum of two years working with children(grades K-8) in a recreational or educational program setting
  • Ability to work in team-oriented environment
  • Ability to plan events and culminating presentations
