Job Description:

 Group Leader for OST Elementary OST Program @ PS 188

The YWCA of the City of New York is seeking caring, creative, responsible and reliable group leaders.  We are looking for individuals with experience working with middle school students and who are committed to positive youth development. Group leaders must be passionate about engaging youth and serving as a positive role model. Key attributes of a successful Group Leader is the ability to manage complex and detailed tasks simultaneously; effectively integrate program philosophy and management policies consistent with organization’s mission and goals;  utilize of analytical skills and creativity to implement program initiatives; and the ability to work collaboratively and independently as necessary with key stakeholders and partnering organizations.

Primary Responsibilities:

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist youth with their homework, and help ensure that the homework gets done
  • Facilitate participants’ transition from the school day to the after-school program.
  • Oversee snack distribution, and transitions into activities
  • Lead weekly activities for participants in K-5th grades
  • Maintain effective classroom management that encourages full participation and student’s growth
  • Supervise groups of children while maintaining their physical, emotional safety and health
  • Assist Activity Specialists and Program Partnerships while they conduct activities
  • Keep careful records of student attendance
  • Keep track of supplies used for activities
  • Stay in close communication with Program Director via phone and email regarding programmatic changes or any other issues or concerns
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings and staff development sessions throughout the school year
  • Provide other program support as needed
  • Participate in program evaluations and provide input on program improvement

 

Qualifications:

  • Associates/ Bachelor’s Degree in Related Field or commensurate experience
  • Commitment to promoting YWCA’s social justice mission, educational and youth development philosophy
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • At least 2 years of experience working with middle school youth
  • Excellent interpersonal,  written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong capabilities in math, reading and other general academic studies
  • Excellent classroom management skills

 

Salary range:   $14/Hr. 15 hours per week.

Monday thru Friday from 2:30p.m to 5:30pm.
