Job Description:
Good Shepherd Services, a leading NYC non-profit committed to the success of young people and families, is currently seeking a Group Leader, for our After School Program At 297 in Brooklyn.
The Group Leader is responsible for the overall development, management, and organization and planning of his or her camp group. In addition, the Group Leader is
responsible for the supervision of all staff assigned to the group.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Maintain 85% group attendance.
- Attend all staff meetings and mandatory trainings.
- Develop and maintain an atmosphere of consistency and fairness in which both children and staff cooperate.
- Plan and implement activities including arts & crafts, swim, group games each day.
- Supervise support staff assigned to your group.
- Maintain strict adherence to policies and procedures at all times.
- Ensure program room and spaces are kept neat and orderly.
- Provide direction, supervision and guidance to campers at all times.
- Maintain all required records for your group.
- Engage in outreach activities to ensure attendance and participation.
- Engage in interaction with parents and guardians in a professional, fair and gentle manner.
- Discuss behavior problems and situations with supervisor as they emerge.
- Resolve conflict within your group while seeking assistance from other staff, supervisors and directors when necessary.
- Inspect all facilities, equipment, and supplies and be sure all are locked away securely at the end of each day.
- Participate in staff orientation as well as on going development activities.
- Attend all camp trips and ensure safety of all participants.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:
- High School Graduate or GED and at least 2 years related experience in youth development programs preferred.
- Able to lead and participate in group activities.
- A commitment to working with youth from a variety of backgrounds, while providing high quality services.
- A commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective.
