Job Description:

 

  • Understand, adhere, and enforce after-school/summer camp program expectations, policies, and protocols as laid out by Program Director.
  • Plan, create, and facilitate lesson plans with a focus in: Academic Support, Leadership Development, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), Literacy, Healthy Living, and Physical Recreation.
  • Create and submit lesson plans to Educational Specialist in a timely manner.
  • Assist participants with their homework in various subjects.
  • Plan and execute an “end of cycle” culminating event in which participants, parents, staff, and other key stakeholders will be invited.
  • Maintain records of all participants which include: attendance sheets, behavioral logs, medical history/allergies, incidents reports, and activity schedules.
  • Conduct daily safe passage of participants.
  • Prepare and distribute materials necessary for leading activities.
  • Assist with the distribution of snacks during “snack time”.
  • Maintain QCH supply room, classrooms, lunchrooms, and main office in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Call parents and keep them informed of any behavioral issues or concerns you may have.
  • Recruit participants during: school lunch times, class presentations, and PTA meetings.
  • Create a fun, safe, and engaging environment which is inclusive to all participants, parents, staff, and key stakeholders.
  • Communicate with Program Director, Assistant Program Director, or Educational Specialist if any special materials are necessary for facilitating a class (with at least 3 weeks’ notice).
  • Provide QCH with all required paperwork, certifications, and support documents in compliance with NYC DOH & DOE regulations.
  • Communicate with Program Director or Assistant Program Director any schedule modifications or behavioral or environmental issues.
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned by Program Director or Assistant Program Director.

Required Skills/Experience:

 

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.
  • Enrollment in college in a related field (Education, Psychology, Social Work, etc.) preferred.
  • Minimum of (2) years’ experience working in an after-school/summer camp setting.
  • Strong lesson planning and facilitation skills preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, multi-tasking, time management and communication skills required.
  • Experience working with middle school youth and youth of diverse backgrounds preferred.
  • Knowledge of youth development principles such as: Social Emotional Learning (SEL) a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate participants to participate in activities which focus on: Academic Support, Leadership Development, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), Literacy, Healthy Living, and Physical Recreation.
  • Must be able to attend occasional morning, evening, or weekend meetings and/or trainings.
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
  • Must be able to work holidays.
  • Must possess the ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate discretion.
  • Must be cleared and maintain clearance throughout duration of employment by NYS DOH and DOE fingerprinting screening, NYS Central Registrar Background Check, 3 Reference checks, Staff Exclusion List (SEL), and must provide a physical examination with updated TB test.
