Job Description:

The Urban Assembly School for Global Commerce (UASGC) and the Urban Assembly School for Emergency Management (UASEM) are in development for September 2013. Both Career & Technical Education (CTE) high schools, they will prepare students for dynamic careers in their respective industries via higher education or immediate workforce entry with a recognized credential.

Each school will employ a partnership coordinator who will be its primary liaison to industry partners, representing the interests of the school and the needs of its students in designing and running course electives, internship programs, extracurricular activities, field trips, guest speaker series, summer enrichment experiences, and other activities that constantly and meaningfully engage experts.

The primary role of a partnership coordinator is to ensure that students are exposed to their school’s theme and the professional world through substantive experiences with partner organizations, and to integrate the development of career skills creatively into a robust school day. This includes marketing the school, managing external relations with high-profile institutions, and organizing imaginative and educationally valuable interfaces between the school and its community of partners.

The partnership coordinator will also be responsible for managing the school’s CTE Advisory Board, a group of professionals from relevant fields who work to ensure alignment of the school’s curriculum and work-based learning program with industry needs and postsecondary expectations.

Required Skills/Experience:

Above all else, ideal candidates will:
 

  • Be well-versed, networked, and preferably experienced in the industry suggested by the school’s theme (transportation, distribution and logistics for UASGC; emergency response and management for UASEM);
  • Possess passion for, deep intuition about, and preferably some background in the holistic education of adolescents and the framework of teaching as an act of social justice;
  • Demonstrate a history of successful institutional relationship-building, most notably for long-term collaborations with multiple moving parts and unconventional metrics;
  • Know how to envision, plan, implement, evaluate, improve, and grow complex portfolios of service over time, having designed programs and brought them to scale; and,
  • Appreciate the need for strategic and creative use of resources and feel confident seeking alternative funding sources for programs not fully supported by a public school budget.

Additionally, successful candidates will possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Duties will bring them into frequent contact with diverse stakeholders, ranging from professionals in the public, private and non-profit sectors to Department of Education representatives, administrators, teachers, and students.

Successful candidates will be well-organized, flexible, able to multi-task effectively, capable of finding the intersective priorities of different constituencies, and attracted to the fast-paced environment of an urban public school.
