Phipps Neighborhoods helps children, youth, and families in low-income communities rise above poverty. We work in South Bronx neighborhoods where we can address the greatest barriers to lasting success through education and career programs, and access to community resources.

Cornerstone Community Centers serve youth, teens, young adults, adults and seniors through a variety of educational, recreational, and cultural activities and community events.

Position Summary:

The Program/Site Coordinator will work closely with the Program Director to create a dynamic after school program utilizing youth development best practices and principles in conducting academic enrichment, project based learning, arts and physical education activities. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • With the support of the Program Director, design, develop and support an after school program for students. Plan and implement program themes and activities. 
  • Work closely with the Program Director and Administrative Assistant to organize logistics for the program; schedules, space reservations, resources needed etc.
  • Some weekend work related to special events and meetings may be required.
  • Create a strong sense of community which values respect, acceptance, and high expectations. 
  • Become an important part of the fabric of the school. Attend school administration meetings and work closely with teachers and staff to develop after school programming.
  • Coordinate a team of Group Leaders; each group leader is responsible for a cohort of students.
  • Work closely with Program Director and group leaders to establish a common language and vision that speaks to our purpose in the community and the impact we aim to make. 
  • Work closely with families, parents, and guardians to ensure the needs of students are met.
  • Help collect and organize data. 
  • Assist the Program Director and Administrative Assistant with the creation of a monthly newsletter for families, school administration, and stakeholders.
  • Perform any and all tasks deemed necessary by the Program Director.

• 2yrs experience or an Associate’s required; Bachelor’s preferred.

• 3yrs experience working in a youth development role with progressive responsibilities highly desired; experience working with elementary and middle school students is ideal.

• Excellent computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite and electronic communications tools; internet and email experience required.

• Demonstrated organizational skills required; proven problem solving and interpersonal skills; proven ability to work with multiple deadlines and multiple priorities.

• Ability to work across a variety of projects and with diverse populations.

• Flexibility, adaptability and ability to work in a changing environment.

• Team player excited about the opportunity to work in an environment dedicated to the development and growth of youth.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Bilingual (Spanish speaking) preferred.

• Enthusiasm, creativity and initiative.

• A sense of humor and a sense of urgency.
