Job Description:

Good Shepherd Services, goes where children, youth, and families face the greatest challenges and builds on their strengths to help them gain skills for success. We provide quality, effective services that deepen connections between family members, within schools, and among neighbors. A leading NYC non-profit that has been recognized for its commitment to the success of young people and families, is currently seeking an Success Coach for our Boys and Girls High School program located in Brooklyn. 

Job Summary:   The Success Coach’s work with youth and their families is a collaborative effort between Good Shepherd Services (GSS) and the Department of Education (DOE). The Success Coach utilizes a youth development model that actively engages young people and supports academic success through identifying and building on assets – and providing individual and group counseling and related activities. 

Major Duties:              

•Provide individual and group counseling to a caseload of students.

•Provide case management for students, including referrals and follow up.

•Provide crisis intervention as needed.

•Work with students to develop and update a post high school plan.

•Monitor and track daily attendance.

•Assist students in attending school regularly and accumulating credits without cutting classes through rapid identification of obstacles and providing consistent attendance outreach including home visits.

•Support academic success and college readiness through proper course selection and college planning.

•Support students with all aspects of the college preparation process including applications, financial aid, personal essay, and college visits.

•Provide family outreach and encourage family involvement.

•Develop and implement workshops responsive to student needs.

•Serve as the primary contact for parents, teachers and school officials regarding questions and concerns. 

•Advocate for students to help resolve disciplinary conflicts or other concerns.

•Assist in carrying out other aspects of the program including planning trips, celebrations, and leadership activities.

•Function as an active member of Good Shepherd Services and school teams.

•Perform statistical, narrative, and record keeping duties as required.

•Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Experience:


•Bachelor’s degree required. 

•Must have experience working with adolescent/young adults individually and in groups.  

•Bi-lingual Spanish/English preferred.  

•Prior experience in a school setting helpful.  

•Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.  

•Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective.
