JOB DESCRIPTION: Groundwork Inc. is looking for a highly-motivated, organized, and supportive person to work at Groundwork for Youth After-School Academy, a literacy-focused after school program for students in grades K through 8 from high-poverty communities in east New York and Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, The Team Leader is a part-time position working up to 20 hours per week that reports to the Campus Director. Each Team Leader collaborates with a Team Leader Assistant to teach and manage a group of 15 to 20 children. Team Leaders are primarily responsible for group planning and instruction and also assist the Program Director in providing and maintaining a positive learning environment for both students and staff. In addition, the Team Leader organizes and supervises homework clinic in which children receive assistance with their assignments, facilitates literacy activities and supports activities run by Activity Specialists.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
§ Serve as a positive role model and uphold professional behavior;
§ Ensure the physical and emotional safety of children in accordance with program policies and procedures;
§ Collaborate constructively with coworkers, and communicate regularly with supervisory staff;
§ Lead grade specific group instruction in accordance with the curriculum selected by Groundwork;
§ Plan and facilitate purposeful and engaging activities and group projects;
§ Participate in all training and staff development activities;
§ Record daily group attendance;
§ Chaperone off campus trips, and;
§ Assist in planning major projects and events.
HOURLY WAGE: up to $12 per hour

Required Skills/Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS:
§ Interest and experience in youth development and creating interactive educational activities;
§ Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a broad range of people including school staff and parents;
§ Ability to work as part of a team;
§ A genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities and field practice;
§ Flexibility and a sense of humor, with the ability to adapt to chancing circumstances;
§ Availability for up to 20 hours per week and holidays 8:00am - 6:00pm , Monday-Friday;
§ BA preferred; high school diploma or equivalent, and prior experience working with children required.
§ Must be available Monday-Friday from 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM, mandatory attendance at all staff meetings and/trainings.
